Getting started
Your first launch
The first time you open Moin, it asks whether you'd like a quick tour.
- Show me around starts the tour.
- No thanks closes the question. Moin won't ask again.
The tour takes about a minute and runs in the app itself. It lights up one part of the app at a time and tells you what it is for:
- Connections, the list of everything you join. Communities are servers with rooms that stay open. Spaces are one person's private room.
- Your space, a private room of your own. Friends can only join while you're in it, and it closes when you leave.
- Your controls, where you mute yourself, send a message, share your screen, or leave.
- More actions, where you share your space with friends or disconnect.
- Settings, for your audio, video, theme, and other options.
- Add connection, where you add communities and spaces. You can also just open a link a friend sends you.
On the way the tour asks you to do two things: open Your space, and pick the name your friends will see. You can change the name later in Settings.
While the tour runs, only the part it lights up can be used. To end it early, close its card with the × in the corner.
Name a space in your list
When you open a friend's space invite, Add a connection offers an optional name after connecting. This name appears only in your Connections list. Leave it blank to use the space's default name.
To change it later, open More actions (⋯) on the saved space and choose Rename space. Clear the name and save to use the default again. Your space's row keeps the name Your space.
Switch connections
If you're already in a community or space, joining another asks you to confirm that you want to leave the current connection. Choose Join to switch or Cancel to stay where you are. Opening Add a connection keeps your current connection; submitting its invitation asks for the same confirmation. After connecting, choose OK to finish adding it. For a space, this also joins its room.
Invite someone to your space
Open More actions (⋯) on Your space and choose Share your space. On iPhone or Android, choose an app or person from the phone's share sheet. On desktop, copy the invite link from the dialog. If the link cannot be loaded on your phone, use Retry in the notice.
The link works while you are in your space. If you kick someone who joined with it, Moin replaces the link; share again to send the current one.
Invite someone to a community
Open More actions (⋯) on the community and choose Share community. On iPhone or Android, an open community opens the phone's share sheet with its link. A password-protected community shares its link without the password, so send the password separately. On desktop, copy the link from the dialog.
If the community uses invitation links, choose how long the invitation lasts and how many people can use it, then choose Create invite link. On a phone, the new link opens in the share sheet. You can share or copy it again from the dialog before closing it. If sharing fails, use Retry to send the same link.
Take the tour again
Open Settings and choose Take the tour. It starts from the beginning, whether or not you took it before.
