Legal
Terms of service.

About these terms
These terms apply when you buy a hosted community from Moin. Moin is run by Asynkron, a Danish sole proprietorship (CVR 42349399). You can reach us at contact@moin.chat. The apps and the self-hosted server are not covered by these terms. The apps are free, and the server is free to run for your own community under its own licence.
How we handle personal data is in our privacy policy.
What you buy
We run a Moin community server for you at the address you choose, such as name.moin.chat, on servers in Germany. We keep it updated and back it up. Communities are invite-only, and members join with the free Moin apps.
We set up your community as soon as you’ve paid. It is usually ready within a few minutes, and the page you return to from checkout shows when it is.
Hobby costs $4.49 a month and allows 15 devices online at once. Club costs $7.99 a month and allows 30. Prices are in US dollars and include VAT where it applies.
Paying
Stripe takes the payment. You pay for each month at its start, and the subscription renews every month until you cancel it. If we change a price, we email you at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time under Manage billing on your community’s page. Your community keeps running until the end of the month you’ve paid for, and then it is suspended. Apart from the refund below, we don’t refund part of a month.
Refund within 14 days
Changed your mind? Email contact@moin.chat within 14 days of your first payment and we’ll refund it in full and close your community. This applies wherever you live.
If you’re a consumer in the EU or the UK, this is also your legal right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days without giving a reason. To use it, tell us clearly that you’re withdrawing, for example by email. You can use the form at the end of this page, but you don’t have to. We refund your payment within 14 days of hearing from you, to the card you paid with, at no cost to you.
If a payment fails
Stripe tries a failed payment again over the following days. If it still can’t take it, your community is suspended: it stops running, and its data is kept. The same happens if a payment is refunded in full or disputed.
A community suspended for a failed payment starts again when the payment comes through. After 30 days of suspension, for any reason, a community is taken off its server and kept only as a backup, and 90 days after that it is deleted. To bring a community back before then, write to us.
Deleting a community
You can delete a community at any time with Delete community on its page. That ends its subscription at once, and the community and its backups are deleted. Apart from the refund within 14 days, we don’t refund the rest of the month.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time with Delete account on your Communities page. That ends every subscription at once, and the account and its communities are deleted. Apart from the refund within 14 days, we don’t refund the rest of the month.
Using your community
You decide who joins your community, and you’re responsible for what happens in it. Don’t use it for anything illegal, including sharing child sexual abuse material, for harassment or threats, for spreading malware or spam, for sharing content you don’t have the rights to, or to attack our systems or anyone else’s.
Your community’s address can’t be offensive or sexual, pretend to be someone else or us, or infringe someone’s rights. If it does, we may change it and tell you by email, and your members will need to connect again at the new address.
If a community breaks these rules, we may suspend it, and delete it in serious cases. We tell the owner by email unless the law stops us.
Availability
We work to keep communities running and backed up, but we can’t promise the service will never be interrupted. Updates and maintenance can restart a community’s server for a moment.
If we ever stop offering hosting, we tell you by email at least 30 days before, and we stop charging from that date.
Liability
Our liability for any claim about the service is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it, and we aren’t liable for indirect losses. This doesn’t limit liability for intent or gross negligence, or any right you have under consumer law that can’t be limited.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that affects you, we email you at least 30 days before the change applies. If you don’t agree, you can cancel before then.
Law and complaints
Danish law applies to these terms. If you’re a consumer, you keep the protection of the consumer law where you live. If you have a complaint, write to us first. If we can’t agree, consumers can complain to Nævnenes Hus, the Danish complaints board.
